The Cargo SAF Programme makes it possible for shippers and forwarders to power a share of their flights using SAF. Customers can choose their own level of engagement, while we make sure that the investment will be used entirely to source SAF. When investing in SAF, our customers receive a third-party audited report linking the amount of SAF purchased to the traffic volume, with an indication of the resulting cut in carbon emissions. By participating in the Cargo SAF Programme, our customers not only reduce their carbon footprint, but also demonstrate great leadership and sense of responsibility for a more sustainable future. After all, we can only successfully develop a market for SAF with the support of all industry stakeholders.
“Our commitment to reducing CO2 emissions is one of the fundamentals of our cargo strategy. The launch of an SAF programme for airfreight is a considerable step in the ambitious sustainability programme we have planned for the next few years. I would like to invite all our customers to join us in creating a more sustainable cargo future”
– Adriaan den Heijer, EVP of Air France-KLM Cargo & Managing Director of MartinairIn line with our own strategy and in anticipation of EU Green Deal initiatives, Air France KLM will start blending a percentage (0.5% to 1%) of SAF on all flights departing from France and the Netherlands. To achieve economies of scale we will continue to invest in SAF. However, to cover the additional costs we will make this part of our All-In rate from February 2022.
In order to further increase the use of SAF on our flights, we will start offering our customers the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint by buying SAF via our online booking process in myCargo. We expect to introduce this new service in Q2 2022. More information will be available soon.
