Learn more about how you and your customers can create CO2-neutral shipments with our CO2mpensation service.
We take account of the fact that your shipments generate CO2 emissions. For the time being, this is inevitable. But you can choose to compensate for these emissions. This means generating the same amount of energy that has been used to transport a shipment, without any CO2 emissions.
You will find more information here about how to contribute through our unique CO2mpensation service. Start by requesting a CO2 emissions report with a detailed overview of the amount of CO2 emitted by your shipments. Then compensate (part of) your CO2 emissions through our cost-efficient Gold Standard projects.
Your Sales Manager can send you a brochure with more detailed information about our CO2mpensation service. Please note that you can request a CO2 report as of 1 June 2009. Information can be obtained on CO2 emissions for shipments from 1 May 2009; we cannot provide details on earlier shipments.
CO2mpensation provides you with a free and complete overview of your CO2 emissions for a particular period. The emissions generated by your shipments are calculated on the basis of weight, route, distances flown, historic fuel consumption, aircraft type and the ratio of passengers to cargo.
If you choose to compensate via CO2mpensation, your contribution will be invested directly in Gold Standard projects that create wind, water or solar energy. The CO2 report can also be used for other compensation programmes such as those of the French NGO Good Planet, or for your own compensation programmes.
How does it work?
If you want to use this service, please contact your local Sales Manager. You'll receive a free and detailed CO2 emissions report.
How do we calculate CO2 emissions for each shipment? We use corporate models created by AIR FRANCE KLM for this purpose. These models take the following factors into account: weight, route, distances flown, historic fuel consumption, aircraft type and the ratio of passengers to cargo.
KPMG Sustainability has verified the calculation method for KLM and Air France data is substantiated by ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency).

CO2mpensation gives you the option of compensating (partially or fully) for your CO2 emissions at the lowest possible cost – just € 8.50 per tonne of CO2 – and with the best possible results. Every euro paid is invested in Gold Standard renewable energy projects and all overhead costs are covered by AF-KL Cargo.
How does it work?
If you want to use this service, please contact your local Sales Manager. You'll receive a CO2mpensation agreement to specify the amount of CO2 you want to compensate. Following this, you'll receive a separate invoice for CO2 compensation.
You can calculate the CO2 amount and cost of compensation for a specific route with our easy-to-use CO2 calculator.
