This innovative cargo concept has been used to transport, among other things, more than 85 million face masks for the fight against corona. We take pride in this wonderful achievement!
The hundredth Cargo-in-Cabin flight; you don't reach such a milestone just like that. You can see the concept as a kind of startup company within KLM. It took extraordinary teamwork between driven and enthusiastic colleagues from different divisions of KLM and at the outdoor stations to develop the concept further and further. In the meantime, more can be transported and, even during rainfall, loaded and unloaded even faster.
Carrying freight on passenger seats. At the beginning of this year it may be unreal, but today it is a reality. The first Cargo-in-Cabin flight departed at the end of April. Thanks to the innovative cargo transport concept, extra space is available.
What currently fits in the cabin would correspond to about 6 large pallets in the belly, or 40% of the total cargo capacity. This gain in space will be used to bring more medical supplies to the Netherlands.
Last Thursday saw the departure of our the 100th Cargo-in-Cabin flight to Shanghai, which was operated by one of the three Boeing 747 Combi´s that we temporarily redeployed specifically for our air-bridge to/from China.
