KLM is currently testing a TaxiBot in collaboration with Schiphol Airport. The TaxiBot is a hybrid towing vehicle, thereby reducing the negative impact of taxiing. This innovative trial contributes to the Air France-KLM Group commitment to reduce our emissions from the entire ground operation to 0% in 2030, including the ground emissions of the AFKLMP Cargo freighter fleet. In light of the sustainability results we aim for, this trial with the TaxiBot is a promising step towards this goal. Moreover, KLM is replacing all of its diesel-powered lower-deck loaders with electrical models. It is the world´s first airline to take this step on such a large scale.
Light at warehouses
In the cargo warehouses at CDG and SPL, a new energy-efficient lighting system has replaced the traditional system, enabling an 80% savings (reduction in energy and maintenance costs) and avoidance of 285 tons of CO2 emissions a year.
The TransPort office building at Schiphol received the LEED Platinum certificate for sustainable construction. It was the first time in the Netherlands that the highest degree of LEED has been awarded. The LEED certificate is issued by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), a non-profit organization representing all sectors of construction. With LEED, sustainable qualities of the design, construction and management of buildings are assessed. The office achieved the highest score on five environmental themes: sustainable location, efficient use of water, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and quality of the indoor environment.
